Privacy Policy

Last updated May 29, 2026

StepOff ("StepOff," "we," "us") is operated by Errante Group. This Privacy Policy explains what information the StepOff mobile app and website (stepoff.app) collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using StepOff you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we store your name, and depending on how you sign in, your email address and a unique identifier from your sign-in provider (Apple or Google). If you sign up with email and password, we store your email and a securely hashed version of your password — never the password itself.

Health and activity data. With your explicit permission, StepOff reads your daily step counts from Apple Health (HealthKit). We use these step counts only to score the competitions you join. We do not read any other health data, and we never use HealthKit data for advertising or share it with data brokers.

Competition data.We store the competitions you create or join, their invite codes, your membership, and the daily step totals you submit to each competition. Other members of a competition can see your name and your step totals for that competition's leaderboard.

How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and keep you signed in.
  • To run competitions and display leaderboards to you and your group.
  • To sync your step counts so your scores stay current.
  • To operate, maintain, and improve the app.

How your information is shared

StepOff is a social competition app, so the people in a competition with you can see your display name and your step totals for that competition. Beyond that, we do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

We use a small number of service providers to run the app, who process data on our behalf:

  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • Neon — database hosting.
  • Apple and Google — sign-in providers (only when you choose them).

Apple Health (HealthKit) data

StepOff's use of HealthKit data follows Apple's requirements. Specifically: we only access step-count data, only with your permission, only to provide the competition features of the app; we do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing; and we do not disclose HealthKit data to third parties except as needed to provide the service (for example, displaying your step total on a competition leaderboard you joined). You can revoke StepOff's access at any time in the iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or by emailing us at support@stepoff.app. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your profile, your competition memberships, and your submitted step data from our database.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored with our hosting providers. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children

StepOff is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
